MothersDaySale For the Love of Birds ( Amazonite, Ruby, Carnelian and Bird Nest Necklace)

Amy was in love with birds. Any kind and color bird. It started with bird nests. Her Father would take her out into the woods behind their house every weekend. They looked for birds nests. She learned a lot about the birds from their nests. She would watch the birds for hours. She is an avid bird watcher to this day. Amy can tell you what kind of bird built the nest. She would tell a bird by it's song. In fact Amy is the know all of the bird world. She lives in a small house in California with 11 bird friends." I wouldn't live any other way" Amy once told me.

Amazonite tube beads and rondelles make up the most part of this necklace. There is a Ruby rondelle, carnelian, and some quartz. The silver tone bird nest is the focal of this necklace. There are three little birds hanging from the nest. (I am sure Amy would tell me that those are the wrong kind of birds for that nest) I used a Thai Silver toggle. This necklace is about 24" in length and the nest and birds hang down another 4".

About these Stones:
Some say the name of this beautiful mineral comes from the Amazon River. But while Amazonite has been found in Brazil, it has not been found close to the Amazon. Long before the Spanish discovered this mighty river in 1541, Amazonite was being used for decorative pieces by humans around the globe.
In Greek Mythology the Amazons were a nation of women warriors. While there is disagreement over the historical existence of the Amazons as a people, this is more likely the source of the name of this stone.
Amazonite has a calming affect on the emotions and nervous system. It promotes creativity and clarity of thought. It is said to be useful in treating eye problems, fevers, and to ease child birth. It is the birthstone of December

Passionate, powerful, exotic and vivacious red - the color of Ruby. Throughout history ruby has been known to adorn mortals and immortals with its beauty and brilliance. The dramatic color and the regal heritage make this precious gemstone even more prized.
Ruby gets its name from the Latin word 'ruber' meaning 'red'. The ancient legends from the east talked of rubies as the glint of life - "a deep drop of the heart's blood of Mother Earth". According to other legends, ruby was believed to be self-illuminated, and was also referred to as the glowing stone.
